Principal - Carla A. Thomas

Principal Carla Thomas

Dear Palominos,
As we begin this exciting journey together, it is my privilege and pleasure to introduce myself to you as your new Principal and share my philosophy.

My name is Carla Thomas. I am a native of Louisiana. My family and I moved to Richmond, Texas almost 25 years ago where I continued to grow as an educator. I am passionate about my profession, a learning leader who enjoys reading and spending quality time with family and friends. I have been blessed to be in the education profession for almost 30 years. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Houston and earned my Master of Educational Administration from the University of Houston-Victoria. I started my career in Lamar CISD at Smith Elementary, where I served 12 years as principal, assistant principal, teacher, and campus facilitator. I opened Culver Elementary in 2019, where I served as principal for 3 years.

My experience has taught me that it is essential to begin every day with a growth mindset, positive attitude, and high expectations for myself and others. Positively impacting the lives of my students, their families, and my staff are the driving forces behind my passion to inspire others to make a difference. I strongly believe that every child can learn in a safe and nurturing environment where they can feel free to set goals, take risks, and be themselves without judgement. I look forward to us creating a community of learners who will thrive in knowledge and respect, while becoming responsible citizens of our wonderful community.

I am extremely thrilled to embark upon this journey with you as we begin building our legacy while fostering a culture of excellence.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at cathomas@lcisd.org. I look forward to meeting you very soon!

Sincerely,
Carla A. Thomas, M. Ed.

AP - Ashley Callis

Hello! My name is Ashley Callis, and I’m excited to be your new Assistant Principal. This year marks my 16th year in education, and I feel incredibly grateful for the journey that has brought me here.

I grew up in Needville, Texas, and graduated from Needville High School in 2004. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Academic Studies with a minor in Special Education from Sam Houston State University. Later, I completed my master’s degree in administration and Supervision from the University of Houston–Victoria.

My career in LCISD began 16 years ago at Beasley Elementary, where I had the joy of teaching 1st grade. Throughout my teaching career, I have taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades. For the past two years, I’ve served as an instructional coach at Pink Elementary, working alongside teachers to support student growth and success.

My educational philosophy is simple: every child can learn, no matter what challenges they may face. I believe in building strong relationships, fostering a positive learning environment, and supporting students and families every step of the way.

I’m truly looking forward to working with our Palomino families this year and can’t wait to see all the amazing things we’ll accomplish together!

Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at acallis@lcisd.org. I look forward to meeting you very soon!
